Anyone reading anything good these days? I'm about halfway through China Mieville's Embassytown (http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Embassytown) and it is great. The narrative is a little slow going the the concept about alien language is utterly fascinating. If anyone is reading or has read this book, I'd love to talk about it with you.

Other good books that I recently read:

Koushun Takami's Battle Royale (http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Battle_Royale). It's a more interesting (and gruesome) precursor to The Hunger Games which is itself derived from Lord of the Flies.

Richard Adam's Watership Down (http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Watership_down). I'd been meaning to read this for years and finally got around to it. Wow. I guess it is young adult fiction, but what a great story and great characters.

Koji Suzuki's Ring Series: Ring (http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Ring_(Suzuki_novel)), Spiral (http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Spiral_(novel)), and Loop (http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Loop_(novel)). I haven't seen enough of the movie The Ring to tell, but the book is way, way different from what little I have to form a comparison.

Arthur Clarke's collection of short stories, The Sentinel (http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/The_Sentinel_(anthology)). I love hard science fiction, Clarke in particular.

So, what are your picks?
